The Bands with The Animal-Name-And-Occasionally-A-Spelling-Mistake

A friend suggested me to listen to the song Happy Together by The Turtles about a year ago. I've been crazy about the song since.
No matter how they toss the dice, it had to be.
I love the lyrics. Have a look at the video, the trumpet player has absolutely no role in the song, and yet he's all over the place fooling around with every band member. This was their thing. These funny hairdoed people (the singer's sideburns are worth noticing), dancing about, playing and feeling the music.

The next song that YouTube suggests you to listen to is I'm a Believer by The Monkees. The drummer is the singer. Not common anymore. They also have a tambourine player. Another uncommon instrument in today's music. One of the comments read
"Wow that tambourine player is really feeling the music".
I couldn't stop laughing after I started observing him. He really is into it! :D  If you want to hear a more modern version of the song, do listen to the remake of the song played in Shrek. Though I don't know what it's called, the singer's voice sounds like he has a cough stuck in his throat that he won't clear, making his voice sound a little rough and husky. Just a little, and that adds to the song.

The Turtles, The Monkees, The Beatles. These names with the funny "The *animal-name-with-occasionally-a-spelling-mistake*" seemed hilarious. I started Googling songs and bands from that period, and here's a short list of hilarious band names :

The Turtles
The Monkees
The Beatles
The Byrds
The Yardbirds
The Wailers [along with Bob Marley]
The Hippos [slightly more recent - 1995 onward]
The Giraffes [1996 onward]
The Apes [1999 onward]
The Seekers
The Deer Hunter
The Tremeloes
The Animals [These guys probably thought they were the mother of all bands]
The Sound of Animals Fighting [started 2004 - By this time they were out of animal names]

And there were scores of bands with similar names. Lacked creativity, I suppose. Or maybe that was the thing then. Just like colors having a color in your band name.

Green day.
Pink Floyd.
Maroon5.
White Stripes.
Black Eyed Peas. [Alright maybe this doesn't count :p]
Black Sabbath.
Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

But I'm glad bands don't have 'The' in their names anymore. And yes, I agree choosing a band name is quite a task!
What's the most creative band name you've come across?

-Adam Levine was a part of Kara's Flowers before he formed Maroon5 (that now has members).
I like that name, Kara's Flowers, and it is quite appropriate for the sort of music Adam Levine used to make when he initially started!

  1. I read somewhere a while ago that Kara's Flowers was named such because there was a girl in their high school/college and all the band members had a crush on her. They wrote songs for her and were so deeply affected by their crush on her. Then they went to serious-music-playing and also most of the band members had changed since and hence, the name to Maroon5 came up.

    1. Yup :) Oh there are so many bands that make music for 'that one girl' - take The Killers for example. They have a series of three songs, all for one girl! Listen to Mr Brightside if you haven't.
